Where the parade begins long before the drums.

Carnival is often remembered for the explosion of color that fills the Sambódromo each year. Yet long before the music reaches the parade avenue, another world quietly comes to life inside the ateliers of the samba schools.

Here, costumes are imagined, feathers are dyed, fabrics are cut, and hundreds of small gestures slowly build the spectacle that will later appear effortless under the lights.

These images were photographed inside the workshop environment of Inocentes de Belford Roxo, where preparation, patience and craftsmanship shape the living rhythm of Carnival.
